At the beginning of April 2019, I had the amazing opportunity to be filmed as the featured musician in the 2019 NFL Draft Intro video along with featured athlete Alim Muhammed.
The story will feature a parallel world of a potential NFL athlete working out, getting ready for the draft, while simultaneously featuring an up and coming Nashville musician (me – Cody Webb) reaching for the big time. As the player is going through his workouts, I am playing dive bars, writing in small rooms, shopping for guitars. As the NFL prospect gets selected for the draft, I walk through a backstage area and onto a big stage with a huge crowd. Both the NFL player and the me (the country music singer) have made it… in Nashville!
The filming took place over the course of two days. On the first day, I had the amazing experience of filming at Ryman Auditorium, strumming on my acoustic Takamine while doing a little bit of songwriting.
We moved over to Honky Tonk Central to film in a “hazy” bar as the location for the just starting out as a musician scene. Little did we know that we set the fire alarms off on the second floor because the Haze machine made it super smoky. We then shot at one of the most famous bars on Broadway, Tootsie’s in front of a packed crowd where I played two of my songs along with the NFL Draft Anthem. Then, they captured me walking down Broadway in my new Lucchese boots.
Lastly, I got to rock out with my new electric PRS guitar at Kid Rock’s Big Ass Honky Tonk and everyone had their phones light up the room while singing along to my new single, Gettin Somewhere.
On the second day, they did a lot of filming on the tour bu near Music City Star Riverfront. We drove around in a big circle – over the bridge around the Nissan Stadium back onto the bridge and then through downtown.
We moved over to Gruhn Guitars and got to choose one of their acoustic guitars to test out.
We ended the night by filming at The Country Music Hall of Fame. They captured me walking down the stairs near the Wall of Records.
They got this really awesome shot of me looking out into the city.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible! You can watch the NFL Draft April 25-27, 2019 on NFL Network, ABC, ESPN, ESPN 2, and ESPN Deportes.
